Peak to Peak Rallye Announcement
One of the big highlights for Peak to Peak has become our on-route stop in which rallye participants are able to help out a pre-selected charity recipient that has been deemed worthy. In 2008, our route would take us through the southwestern Colorado town of Dolores. In doing some research we discovered that the volunteer Fire & Rescue department was in the process of trying to raise funds for the purpose of erecting a new building for its operations. One of the things that really impressed us about the departments undertaking was that the construction of the new facility would be completed by the Fire & Rescue crew themselves.
During our lunch stop at Old Germany restaurant, a presentation was made by rallye founder Harry Mathews, on behalf of all rallye participants, in which a check was presented to fire Chief Don Setser. The gathered crowd, which included a number of the fire departments personnel and other town officials, let out an audible gasp as it was revealed that the amount of the donation was $10,000. How cool is it that we are able to make a positive impact in communities that truly appreciate it?!
August 1st, 2009 marked the official grand opening for the new facility (pictured here). We were informed that the Peak to Peak donation went towards the purchase of appliances and fixtures for the new building. A large debt of gratitude has been offered by the fine folks of Dolores. Thanks for helping make their dream a reality!
