Peak to Peak Rallye
September 20-25, 2009
As was announced during the 2008 Rallye, 2009 will be the final running of the Peak to Peak Rallye, affectionately known as, Wheels to Meals. Although this announcement was not a popular one, we know you will come to accept this decision and will appreciate all of the great times we’ve had on the road together. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to usher some of our fellow sports car enthusiasts around the great state of Colorado, as well as our neighboring states, which have all provided some of the most incredible roads and scenery this country has to offer. It has truly been a wonderful experience! But it is not yet time to say goodbye and we feel we have a trick or two up our sleeves left to unveil for the final event. Our route will take us over a number of stretches of road not encountered during previous Peak to Peak Rallies, all of which you will most certainly find entertaining. Our overnight destinations will be in Gunnison, Taos, NM, and Breckenridge. We predict that the El Monte Sagrado, in Taos, may become the favorite stop of any that we have chosen over the six year run of Peak to Peak. It’s one that you will likely include in your future travel plans. The only drawback to our stay at El Monte is that we are not able to extend our stay to 2-nights without severely compromising the driving portion of our route.
Our charitable fundraising efforts over the years have proven as successful as they have been rewarding. Thanks to rallye participants, Peak to Peak has made a positive impact on a number of Colorado communities. This impact is one that is greatly appreciated by those that have been affected. These efforts will remain a priority for the 2009 rallye.
Since 2009 will be our last event, we are excited to announce a new bonus feature to offer participants. An optional Track Day/Driving School will take place on Friday, September 25th, and will be held at the recently constructed High Plains Raceway, which is an easy 1 hour drive from Peak to Peak World Headquarters. This brand-new facility will undoubtedly gain national notoriety as a fun and challenging road-racing circuit with a design that will rank among the best. Here is your opportunity to push your limits and gain a sense of the actual ability of your sports car, and do it LEGALLY!! Qualified driving instructors will be on hand for anyone without on-track experience. Cost for this additional day of fun behind the wheel is $250 per car, which will include lunch. We highly recommend taking advantage of this exciting opportunity.
The entry fee for the 2009 Peak to Peak Rallye will remain the same as in ’08, $4000 ($3850 if you need a one-night stay at the Golden Hotel, $3700 if you will not be staying at the GH at all). Entry will be limited to 40 cars, and with this being our final event we fully expect these spots to be filled quickly. As always, we will accept returning entrants from the 2008 rallye automatically as long as a $500 deposit is received no later than 1/17/09. Any remaining spots will be filled by other interested parties beginning 1/18/09.
This event is open to all sports cars (no sedans or SUV’s, please), but keep in mind that we have limited transport capabilities for vehicles unable to complete the trip, therefore reliability is essential. Remember, participants will have to bare the consequences of their own actions behind the wheel as Peak to Peak is NOT a high-speed, police escorted event.
According to you, our rallye friends, the Peak to Peak Rallye has become one of the most enjoyable sports car rallye events in the country. Having the majestic Rocky Mountains as our playground certainly gives us an advantage but we attribute the majority of our success to our participants. We can’t imagine a finer group of people to spend a week on the road with. Many thanks for your support over the years. We are certain that the final running of this event will be truly memorable!
Happy Rallying,
Harry, Cris, & Greg
